A Season of Gratitude and Hope
In 2027, Ascension Lutheran Church marks 175 years of faithful ministry on Milwaukee’s
south side. From immigrant roots to a vibrant multicultural, multilingual congregation, God
has gathered us in faith and continues to grow us in mission. Our campus is not only a house of worship—it is a shared home for ministry partners who serve the neighborhood every day of
the week.
ALC 175: Gathered in Faith, Growing in Mission is our capital and legacy campaign—rooted in gratitude for the past and lifted by hopef or the future.
Together we will renew our shared campus so that Ascension and our partners
can continue offering meals, counseling, advocacy, cultural expression, youth programs, and
hospitality to the south side of Milwaukee. We will also strengthen the Ascension Endowment
and equip the next generation of disciples to serve this neighborhood and beyond.
"I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and each will receive wages according to their own labor. For we are God’s coworkers, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building."
Looking Toward the Next 175 Years
From the earliest immigrant families to today’s English-, Spanish-, and Hmong-speaking communities, Ascension has been a place where God gathers people in faith and sends them out in mission. Our campus has become a shared home for partners who feed the hungry, house and counsel youth, support survivors of trafficking, organize for justice, and celebrate culture and creativity. ALC 175 is our opportunity to give thanks for that heritage and to equip he campus, the Endowment, and the next generation so that these shared ministries can
flourish for whatever God is still calling us to do.
Gathered in faith. Growing in mission. God’s work—through our hands—continues.
Campaign Goals
- $1,000,000 for building renewal and capital projects — including up to $500,000 in loan-servicing support from the Ascension Endowment Fund over five years, plus congregational pledges and potential grants
- $750,000 in new pledges to the Ascension Endowment Fund (legacy planning for future ministry)
Building Renewal Progress
Primary projects include renovating Room 2 for flexible ministry and partner use, restoring the flood-damaged Amphitheater, restructuring our remaining roof debt, and completing additional priorities such as parking lot and retaining wall improvements, stained glass, sanctuary painting, and related infrastructure. A stretch goal is transforming the front patio and green space once the $1 million building-renewal target is met.
Ascension Endowment Legacy Planning
Legacy planning strengthens the Ascension Endowment, creating a lasting financial foundation that sustains our shared campus and its ministry partners for generations—ensuring meals, counseling, youth programs, and hospitality continue to serve Milwaukee’s south side long into the future.
